Horse Tracks: Broncos overcome the Bengals with offense

Admit it, when Brandon McManus' extra point was blocked in the second quarter, you weren't so sure the Broncos would pull this one out... Then Trevor Semian happened.

At first, things just didn't seem to be clicking for the Broncos in the first half of Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Demaryius Thomas was absent. Trevor Semian's passes were a foot or two off this or that way. C.J. Anderson was struggling to find a hole. Then the Broncos had an extra point blocked.

In the 2015 AFC Championship game, the New England Patriots missed a field goal and it came back to haunt them. Just last week, I wrote about how a missed Jason Elam field goal in 2002 against the Colts ended up costing the Broncos. On Sunday, I was sure that errant extra point would somehow find its way back onto the field to hurt the Broncos.

...but then, Trevor Semian and the Denver Broncos offense arched its back and flexed its muscle in the second half. There is a great old picture of the scoreboard displaying a simple message at old Mile High, 'The 4th Quarter Belongs to the Denver Broncos.' That was certainly the case in Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday. Trevor Semian chucked the ball around with ease, reeling in two touchdowns and sealed a terrific Broncos victory.

The soggy run defense that plagued Denver in the first half made the necessary adjustments at halftime. Two first-half touchdowns gave way to a a lonely Cincinnati field goal to close out the game.

Trevor proved he can sling the ball when he needs to. The Broncos defense proved that it's deep enough, talented enough, and capable enough to make any adjustments necessary to beat anyone. The Broncos are 3-0 and are flashing offensively. Sunday's game was a complete one on both sides of the ball. What's better than 3-0?

The Denver Broncos are hoping to find out in Tampa this Sunday.
