The Denver Broncos officially ruled out wide receiver Bennie Fowler for Thursday Night's week one matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
Bennie Fowler III only Bronco ruled out vs. CAR. Ty Sambrailo, Jeff Heuerman, James Ferentz all questionable. #9sports— Mike Klis (@MikeKlis) September 7, 2016
Fowler suffered a hairline fracture to his elbow after the Broncos first preseason game against the Chicago Bears and has sat out since. I'd expect Fowler to be good to go for week two when the Broncos host Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.
Tight end Jeff Heuerman, center James Ferentz, and offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo are listed as questionable and have a "50/50 shot" at playing on Thursday night. Heuerman has been dealing with an ankle injury but seems likely to play Thursday night. Backup center James Ferentz has been sidelined with a knee injury and could be available to be Matt Paradis's backup. If not, look for rookie Connor McGovern to serve as a backup guard/center Thursday night. As for tackle/guard Ty Sambrailo, I think the Broncos will hold him out this week and give him some extra time to come back from an elbow injury he suffered early in camp.
The rest of the Broncos usually would be considered "Probable" but the NFL removed that label so now they're just left blank.
As for the Panthers, first round pick, defensive tackle Vernon Butler and backup linebacker A.J. Klein are listed as questionable while reserve safety Dean Marlowe is considered doubtful for Thursday Night's game.
