Update 1/13/2017 2:30PM: They got both McCoy and Musgrave.

Original Post:

According to 9NEWS Denver's Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos are nearing a deal with former San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers(that's weird to type) Head Coach Mike McCoy to be their Offensive Coordinator once again.

KOA News Radio's Brandon Krisztal had the news last night that the Broncos would sign McCoy and 24 hours later it is just about official.

This really isn't a surprising move since it was reported a few days ago that Vance Joseph reached out to Mike McCoy about potentially being his Offensive Coordinator if he was hired as the Denver Broncos Head Coach. Well, Vance Joseph was hired today and it looks like McCoy will be returning to Denver for a second stint as the team's Offensive Coordinator.

Rankings of team with Mike McCoy as Offensive Coordinator

Year TEAM Scoring YPP NY/A YPC QBs
2009 DEN 20 15 15 17 Orton, Sims
2010 DEN 19 13 10 24 Orton, Tebow
2011 DEN 25 25 29 6 Orton, Tebow
2012 DEN 2 5 1 25 Manning

Now McCoy may not be the only offensive minded add to the staff. The Broncos are reportedly trying to add former Oakland Raiders Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave in an assistant role as well.

This would give the Broncos two of the better available offensive minds on the same staff to help improve the offense. Mike McCoy's flexibility is about as good as you can get and Musgrave had the Raiders offense clicking and he helped develop Raiders quarterback Derek Carr into the quarterback he is today. So if this happens, would be a major addition to the Broncos offense.

McCoy's interview will likely finish up tonight while Musgrave's happen's tomorrow morning. I think we will get official word on this by sometime Friday night. Getting McCoy alone is a good hire for the Broncos, adding Musgrave should be the cherry on top.
