Report: Broncos Head Coaching job is Vance Joseph's "job to lose"

Sounds like Vance Joseph might be the early favorite for the Denver Broncos Head Coaching job.

According to NFL columnist Alex Marvez, the Denver Broncos Head Coaching job is Miami Dolphins Defensive Coordinators Vance Joseph's "job to lose".

As the tweet states, Joseph has yet to interview for the job, so things could change but his connection with Broncos executive Matt Russell could be key here.

As we know, Joseph has reportedly been a favorite of the Broncos for a few years now. After they hired now former Head Coach Gary Kubiak, they tried hiring the then Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Backs coach to be their Defensive Coordinator. However, the Bengals blocked the Broncos from hiring him. The Broncos eventually settled for Wade Phillips and well, the rest is history as they say.

There's also the report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the Broncos were about to offer the Head Coaching job to Joseph two years ago if Broncos General Manager could not convince then Baltimore Ravens Offensive Coordinator to take the Head Coaching gig.

So this report should not come as any surprise.

The Broncos are also interviewing Atlanta Falcons Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan later this week, and he is also considered a top candidate for the job. How Shanahan does in his interview could make him the favorite for the job instead.

The Broncos are rumored to be interested in a few other coaches currently, but the only reported interviews right now are Shanahan and Joseph. Kyle will visit with the Broncos late this week while Joseph will potentially do it sometime next week. So Shanahan has the first chance to impress the Broncos decision makers.

So we shall see who wins out. It really seems it is coming down to these two candidates. The Broncos know Joseph the best right now, so it should be his job to lose. It all depends on how Shanahan does during his interview.
