Broncos-Giants second quarter update: The Giants are in full control

Trevor Siemian’s pick six helped the New York Giants extend their lead to two touchdowns.

The New York Giants opened the second quarter up with a third down and ten from their own 25-yard line after a false start penalty. Eli Manning would hit Roger Lewis on a broken play to get the first down.

Orleans Darkwa would rip off a 47-yard run - the biggest run play the Broncos defense had given up all season. After two more runs from Darkwa, the Giants faced a third and two from the Broncos five-yard line. Manning would fire a strike to Evan Engram for the touchdown to extend their lead over the Broncos.

Giants 10, Broncos 0.

Trevor Siemian began to get Demaryius Thomas involved on the next drive. The second catch put the Broncos out near midfield. Thomas would make another catch on 2nd and 12, but the refs called a fumble on the field despite the ground clearly causing the fumble.

After the review, the refs decided correctly that Thomas was down by contact - which was clear to everyone on the planet except the refs who let the fumble play itself out.

On third and seven, Siemian would go back to Thomas who was interfered with on the pass to give the Broncos an automatic first down. Cris Collinsworth would ignore the obvious interference and let people know who saw everything he refused to see that it was a bad call. And people wonder why Broncos Country hates that guy.

Two quick plays later, the Broncos faced another third down. This time needing ten yards. Siemian would misfire to telegraphing his pass the whole way for the interception.

Fortunately, the Broncos defense would force the Giants backwards and ultimately the punt.

With the first half winding down, the Broncos desperately needed Siemian to find some offense. After a short gain from Jamaal Charles, Siemian would hit Virgil Green down the seam for to midfield.

Then C.J. Anderson would break off a solid seven-yard gain, but a holding penalty on Green would push the Broncos back yet again.

A near interception on a deep pass from Siemian to Bennie Fowler put the Broncos into a second down a 20. Thomas would grab a quick slant to get 11 of those yards back.

Thomas has been beating guys in this game and finally broke it wide open on a deep reception from Siemian down to the Giants ten yard line.

On first and goal, Siemian threw into quintiple coverage to Thomas for an obvious incompletion. On second and goal, Siemian would misfire again to the outside. On third and goal, Siemian would throw over the middle and it was nearly intercepted.

Apparently, Mike McCoy doesn’t believe in running the ball in the red zone. The same old red zone woes were apparent in this game. Brandon McManus made the field goal attempt this time around.

Giants 10, Broncos 3.

After a sack and a run stuffing, Manning faced a third and 12. The Broncos No Fly Zone wasn’t about to let that drive continue, though, and forced the three and out.

With less than three minutes to go, the Broncos needed a big drive to end the half. On third down, Siemian would escape a sack to convert the for a first down with his legs. That would be the only offense they could muster as Siemian would telegraph an easy pick six to Janoris Jenkins to give the Giants a huge lead heading into halftime.

Giants 17, Broncos 3.

The offense is going to hold this defense back in 2017, it appears.

Siemian went into the locker room after injuring his left shoulder trying to make the tackle on that pick six, so Brock Osweiler made his re-debut with the Broncos with less than a minute to play in the half.

They would run out of time.
