THREE QUARTERBACKS

(the Denver Broncos can still the best team in the NFL)

Getting the gang back together for the first time.

SIEMIAN

Trevor Siemian the incumbent, survived what was a legitimate 9.8% touchdown ratio in the first two weeks of the season (Siemian threw a touchdown on nearly 10% of his passes) to become one of the lowest scoring starting quarterbacks in the NFL over the next five weeks.

Remainder of the season: Siemian should have a good game on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, if he struggles Broncos fans should see Brock Osweiler relieving Siemian of his quarterback duties. If Siemian wins, he will keep his job as the Broncos head to play the Philadelphia Eagles next week.

OSWEILER

Brock Osweiler the guy who got away if you're John Elway, but it does not seem as if Denver is as smitten on Osweiler as they were in 2015 when they offered him a reported $15MM per year to play football.

Remainder of the season: Unlike Broncos fans, Denver brass remembers how difficult it was to win with Osweiler. A common fan reply is to hear about Osweiler's record with the Broncos (5-2), but fans don't remember that Osweiler had ten turnovers (six interceptions, four fumbles) to eleven touchdowns (ten passing, one rushing). Nor do they remember Osweiler being pulled in Week 17 as he was setting up to lose his third of four games. Osweiler will only start a game if Siemian or Paxton Lynch are injured. Osweiler sat on the bench as Siemian allowed a shut out last Sunday, that’s Osweiler’s status.

LYNCH

Paxton Lynch the unacknowledged host of this shindig. Lynch's injury took at least two weeks longer than the Broncos anticipated when they kept him on their 53-man roster, but that has no passed. Lynch participated in Thursday's practice in limited fashion and represents the only future prospect at the quarterback position for Denver.

Remainder of the season: Last week we said that Siemian had to go 2-1 over the his next three games to keep his job, since then he is 0-1 and has lost two weeks in a row to two of the worst teams in the NFL.

Lynch is the opposite of Siemian, he can and will scramble if the Broncos permit that. Scrambling can and will change the success of the current offense. Lynch finished the preseason ‘quarterback competition’ with only 18 yards less than Siemian and one less touchdown. It has been two months since then. If Lynch would like to be a quarterback in the NFL he will have to prove that and we are guessing that Denver inserts him against the Eagles in two weeks or in the event that Siemian or Osweiler finish that game and the result is a loss—Lynch takes over against the New England Patriots.
