Elway: Quarterback position “under evaluation right now”

All signs point to a change at the quarterback position.

Denver Broncos General Manager/President of Football Operations John Elway appeared on Orange and Blue 760 this afternoon and was asked about the Broncos quarterback position. Many expect a change at the position after Trevor Siemian’s struggles, but he did not announce any change at the position...yet.

Elway told Dave Logan that the quarterback position is “under evaluation right now” and that a “decision will be made in the upcoming days”. This isn’t good news for current starter Trevor Siemian. If he were to remain the starter, they would have likely announced it today, especially on a short week. However, they decided to drag this out a tad bit and will announce something in the “upcoming days”.

Now, there was plenty of smoke out there about the Broncos going with quarterback Paxton Lynch in replace of Siemian. However, Head Coach Vance Joseph announced just now that Lynch is not under consideration to start against the Eagles this week because he is working his way back still from a shoulder injury that he suffered during the preseason.

So that leaves Brock Osweiler as the only in-house replacement for Trevor Siemian this upcoming weekend.

Now will they make the switch to Osweiler? That remains to be seen. It’s clear that Paxton Lynch will likely be the starter once he’s healthy enough. The question is if they will stick with Siemian until that point and time or if they will give Brock Osweiler a game or two before going to Siemian?

It will be interesting how this plays out and I think we will have our answer by this time tomorrow. Will they stick with the struggling Trevor Siemian or will they let Brock start for a game or two before being replaced by Lynch?
