Imagine this scenario over the next five games for the Denver Broncos.
With the playoffs off the table, Trevor Siemian goes out and leads the team to four or five wins, which knocks Denver out of contention for a top quarterback option in the 2018 NFL Draft and makes a high-priced bidding war of a free agent quarterback the only other option left on the table.
I think Siemian entered the 2018 season as the Broncos starter in that scenario.
Is it crazy to even consider? I don’t think so. Here are their list of opponents:
- at Miami Dolphins (4-7)
- vs New York Jets (4-7)
- at Indianapolis Colts (3-8)
- at Washington Redskins (5-7)
- vs Kansas City Chiefs (6-5)
There is no denying that the final five games is the weakest part of the 2017 regular season schedule for the Broncos. If they finish 7-9 or 8-8, John Elway could find himself without any clear path to a replacement over Siemian. And if Siemian plays well, he may not want to.
Given how this season has gone, it would not surprise me one bit to see this play out exactly like that.
