According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the expectation as of right now is that Vance Joseph will remain the Denver Broncos Head Coach in 2018.

With the Broncos in the midst of a 4-9 season, many have called for Vance Joseph to be fired. However, Rapoport is saying that Joe Ellis and General Manager John Elway want to make it work with Joseph instead of firing him after just one season. Keep in mind, the Broncos were after Joseph for quite awhile, so it does seem unlikely that they would move on from him so quickly.
Per Rapoport, the Broncos are blaming the lack of success this season largely on the quarterback play by Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch. It’s safe to assume that a quality quarterback added to the mix would greatly improve the Broncos performance this season. So it sounds like Elway and Ellis are expecting a quick bounce back in 2018(Hello Kirk Cousins?).
Joseph isn’t immune to any blame here. He has had his own issues and will need to learn and grow from his rookie year as a Head Coach. He has looked lost at times this year and has made some questionable decisions this season, but again, he is a first-time inexperienced Head Coach so growing pain was always going to happen.
Now for you #FireVanceJoseph people, there’s still some hope the Broncos move on from him. Rapoport is saying that the Broncos brass will be keeping a close eye on how the team plays in the final three games of the season. If they do not look competitive against the Colts tonight, Washington next week, or against Kansas City in the season finale, the Broncos may decide that enough is enough.
Last week’s shutout performance against the New York Jets was encouraging and if they continue that tonight against the Colts, Vance’s seat will likely become much cooler. If the team suffers a bad loss tonight against a bad and battered Colts team, that seat will become very warm once again.
