Report: As many as five Broncos assistant coaches will be fired at seasons end

Black Monday draws near.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, sources tell him that Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway will fire as many as five assistants in the coming days.

The report also states that Vance Joseph’s fate will be decided after today’s matchup with the Chiefs. As of now, it appears that Vance is safe, but the outcome of today’s matchup with the Chiefs will likely decide his fate. A bad loss to the Chiefs backups and rookie starter Patrick Mahomes could be it for Joseph.

If Vance is fired, obviously the number of assistants fired would grow as the new Head Coach would bring in his own people, but changes are coming regardless.

One coach who is likely gone regardless is Special Teams coach Brock Olivo. He’s a first-time Special Teams coach and it showed this year. The Broncos unit really struggled this year with execution and turnovers. So a change will likely be made there no matter the outcome of today’s game.

As for the other potential changes, I would expect most if not all the rest to be on the offensive side of the ball. Mike McCoy was obviously fired and his people remained in place. So names like Offensive Line coach Jeff Davidson and Tight End’s coach Geep Chryst could be among the names dismissed by Elway.

Intern Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave is a big question mark. I believe if Vance is retained as the Head Coach, he likely sticks as the Broncos Offensive Coordinator in 2018. However, if Joseph is let go, the Broncos likely revamp the entire offensive side of the ball and Musgrave’s future becomes murky. He is good friends with John Elway so that does bode well for him.

Changes, big changes are coming to the Broncos. So buckle up and get ready for the wild ride once again Broncos Country!
