Report: Broncos coaches will finish out the season

We’ll see no coaching changes until after the season.

NFL: Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Many have been calling for the Broncos to fire Head Coach Vance Joseph, and rightfully so. The Broncos are currently 3-9 and in the midsts of an 8-game losing streak that doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Joseph hasn’t been on the job for more than a year, but all signs point to him getting fired. However, do not expect that move to be made during the season. Mike Klis of 9NEWS is saying the Broncos coaches are safe...for now.

After the Giants cleaned house by firing Head Coach Ben McAdoo and GM Jerry Reese many wanted the Broncos to clean house themselves, but that’s not happening. They’re all safe for now, however, Klis is saying “several changes to the team’s coaching and personnel staff are expected at season’s end”.

This means the coaching staff and as Klis puts it “everyone but Elway” in the personnel department is on notice going forward.

As the Broncos have been non-competitive in the ultra-competitive business that is the NFL, just about everyone except general manager John Elway in the football operations department is on notice. First-year head coach Vance Joseph is already on the hot seat, although there is sentiment he would be a much better coach with better quarterback play.

Klis does drop the nugget about Joseph being a better coach if the quarterback situation was better. That point does hold some water. A quarterback makes or breaks a coach. If you have one, it disguises a bunch of deficiencies on the team and for the coach but doesn’t get rid of them of course. If you lack a capable quarterback like the Broncos do currently, it all comes to the forefront and you get what you have this season. Joseph has looked in over his head, but he did inherit Elway’s mess, so maybe he deserves one more year. Personally, I say move on, but I understand that sentiment.

Now with all that said, what John Elway said earlier today doesn’t paint a pretty picture of the people surrounding John Elway right now.

He confirms that they are finishing out the season with this coaching staff but finished with a damning statement. John Elway has a HUGE ego and is a prideful man and if he’s embarrassed about the product on the field, you can bet some heads will be rolling.

If the Broncos continue to look inept and this losing streak goes into double digits I’d expect to see major changes to the Broncos coaching and personnel departments at seasons end. It could also lead to the Broncos making a major coaching hiring if available. They will likely have a top 5 pick to offer, a chance to pick their own quarterback and lead this team back to the playoffs.

This is all opinion, but one man who is known as a “quarterback whisper”, a proven HC, and someone Elway has a connection to(which has been important) and may be available is current Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. He went after him in 2011 and could look to do it again in 2018. I get the ego issue with both men, but it makes sense.

Stay tuned Broncos Country, things could get very interesting in the coming weeks.
