Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro from The Afternoon Drive caught up with Broncos Ring of Fame linebacker, Karl Mecklenburg to discuss the Broncos offensive line troubles.
Eric made a good point that he always likes to ask defensive front seven players about offensive linemen and vice versa.
The question posed right around the 7:25 mark was what we have been talking about all season: Were the Broncos’ issues on the offensive line due to coaching or talent?
While acknowledging that it’s a combination of both, Mecklenburg said he thinks coaching was the bigger issue and trying to fit a scheme to guys that don’t fit into it.
He thinks the players already there will automatically be better than last year due to Mike McCoy and his staff fitting his scheme to what the players do best, not the other way around.
The best coaches in the NFL can take any group of guys and make a line out of them.
If there’s one thing that separates great coaches from the other coaches, it’s there ability to evaluate talent and see what the gifts are from the guys they’ve got on that team and build a system that fits their abilities.
What do you think Broncos’ Country? Did we already get better this year without signing or drafting a single new player yet?
