Eric Goodman was joined by Sean Walsh, and the conversation inevitably rounded into a quarterback session. Mainly, what would bringing in Tony Romo say about where Paxton Lynch stands in his development?
When John Elway traded up to draft Lynch in the first round, it was apparent that the Broncos believed he could be the future. However, Trevor Siemian took control of the team in training camp last year, and never let go. Even a bad shoulder couldn’t clear the way for Lynch to take over the team.
Now, with Romo set to hit the market, it looks like Elway may try and grab another veteran QB at the end of his career. One last ride for Romo might bring the Broncos another shot at glory. However, it certainly puts Lynch’s maturation in question. With the thought being he was a 2 year project as Goodman asserted, signing Romo essentially extends that time for Lynch to grow.
There is no question that the Broncos have a championship caliber defense. The offense is another issue. Romo would not make the Broncos an immediate Super Bowl favorite. Romo with an upgraded offensive line might.
What do you think Broncos Country? Should John Elway sign Tony Romo, essentially sidelining Lynch, or Trevor Siemian, for two years?
