Signs point to Broncos going O-line in first round

Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post tells Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of The Afternoon Drive that Broncos are likely picking a tackle on Day One.

Despite some speculation today that the Broncos made trade down in the draft - swapping their 20th pick for Cleveland’s 33rd plus another third-round pick and possibly late-round pick too, Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post believes the Broncos will be looking for their starting left tackle in the Draft.

Eric Goodman asked her if Garett Bolles, Ryan Ramczyk and Christian McCaffrey were all available at 20 when the Broncos have their first pick, which way are they leaning?

Sorry McCaffrey fans, Jhabvala doesn’t see the second coming of Eddie Mac happening here.

“McCaffrey is not going to be there at 20,” she said, pointing out that his stock is in the top 10 right now, likely too high for the Broncos to trade up. “Their primary focus is filling that tackle spot.”

The hosts asked Jhabvala if John Elway is still looking to possibly trade for a veteran left tackle or possibly pick up a free agent right after the draft.

The answer was “we’ll see in two weeks.”

So basically - it could get interesting with possible deals in the works with the Browns, or it will be rookie coming in to fight for the left tackle spot.

Elway has a lot of draft picks to work with as compensatory picks can be traded this year, so my money is on “things getting interesting” once again.

No matter what happens, Jhabvala sees the team as being in pretty good shape regardless.

“They are contenders because they have two quarterbacks they are confident in, you can say what you want about them at this point, but they also have two all-pro receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders,” Jhabvala said. “They think the O-line has improved. We’ll see. And then they’ve got that defense. So they’re pretty well off right now.”

Let’s play a little “Around the Horn” with that comment - are you buying or selling that the Broncos are pretty well off right now?
