Trevor Siemian still regarded as the Denver Broncos starter from now on

Reports are coming in bolstering the grip Trevor Siemian has over the locker room and the Denver Broncos starting job.

Hot on the heels of my assertion earlier this week that Trevor Siemian will, indeed, be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos to start this season come reports that he is actually the teams starting quarterback beyond this season.

NFL Network’s James Palmer spoke to Omar Ruiz on Up to the Minute Live on Thursday and stated strongly that Siemian will have the upper hand over Paxton Lynch entering the offseason program.

Siemian might have been widely viewed as a pet project of former coach Gary Kubiak, but the new coach has been impressed after taking an in-depth look at the 2016 game film.

Despite subpar pass protection and an inconsistent ground attack, the Broncos coaching staff believes "he played very well last season," Palmer added. "They believe he played at a higher level than many assume."

Joseph went a step further, maintaining that Siemian didn't get the credit he deserved in league circles.

The high praise didn't end there, either. Joseph also raved about Siemian's intelligence and intangibles.

Why is this important? Because the starting quarterback of an NFL team matters. With the coaching changes, the question of who will be the Broncos' starting quarterback is at least interesting.

Siemian has come under fire around the league with the departure of Gary Kubiak and his coaching staff with reports that Lynch would be given every opportunity to take over the starting job. That line is a far cry from a late December report that Siemian would be the starter through 2017, and beyond.

This signals a shift back the other way and could be the beginnings of an indication that the Broncos, again, don’t think Lynch is ready to start in the NFL. That would begin to suggest Lynch may never be ready to start in the NFL, but its still too early in his career to entertain those thoughts. However, Siemian was ranked in the bottom third of the NFL in his rookie season, so if Lynch can’t top that at this point the questions of his long-term viability ring a bit true.

Even Woody Paige dropped a hint of who the starter will be in his latest article regarding the Tony Romo saga and the intertwined quarterback history between the Broncos and Dallas Cowboys.

Instead, Paxton Lynch is in Denver instead of Dallas (which wanted him last year in the draft), and Prescott, who could have been in Denver, is in Dallas, and Romo is in the broadcasting booth (and could be the analyst for the Broncos-Cowboys game).

And Trevor Siemian will be the Broncos’ starting quarterback again.

It was a strange saga.

"And Trevor Siemian will be the Broncos’ starting quarterback again."
