Horse Tracks: Should the Broncos roll the dice on Zach Orr?

Good Morning Broncos Country!

If you may remember, earlier this winter, now former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zach Orr decided to retire because of a spinal condition. A doctor told him he was at a “higher risk” for a potentially serious disc injury and potentially a fatal one, and this is why he decided to hang up the cleats. However, he has had met with multiple doctors since and they have given him some contradicting information saying he’s not facing any extra risk because of this spinal condition. So now the talented Orr is exploring a comeback in the NFL.

Orr’s agent Robert Sheets told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that his client has received interest from a total of 16 teams so far. He has already started to make some visits and has or will meet with the Detroit Lion, New York Jets, and the Indianapolis Colts. How many teams and who else he will visit remains to be seen.

The reason why teams are reportedly lining up for Orr’s services is that he is a 25-year-old linebacker coming off a season where he was a second-team All-Pro player. He also totaled 132 tackles, 5 pass deflections, 3 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble during his third NFL season. So a player of this caliber does not hit the free agent market this late into the offseason.

So now it’s time to ask the question, should the Denver Broncos bring in the talented Orr in for a visit and potentially sign him? They already have Brandon Marshall signed to a long term deal and Todd Davis who they seem to like, but Orr would an upgrade over Davis. He would also give the Broncos a coverage linebacker that they are lacking on the roster.

There is no reported interest between the Broncos and Orr, but I think it is something they should at least consider. However, the Broncos have done very little at the inside linebacker position this year so I would expect this trend to continue, but hopefully, the Broncos surprise me.

If Orr’s medicals come back looking good, some team is going to get a young stud linebacker entering the prime of his career. I hope that team ends up being the Broncos.
