When John Elway was on the air with Dan Patrick on Friday, more than a few eyebrows were raised.
Not for what the Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations/general manager said about the quarterback battle between Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian, but what he “hinted” at with his former teammate and head coach. For those who haven’t heard or seen it, here’s Elway’s quote.
“I try to give that quarterback the best chance to be successful, and that’s getting him in the right system that fits him the best. Not necessarily the one that a coach has run his whole life, but also to be able to take advantage of what the quarterback does best.”
On Friday’s The Afternoon Drive, Les Shapiro agreed with our Adam Malnati, who touched on this with his story (and some thought he was mental).
“John Elway turned this question about what he looks for in a quarterback into what my head coach last year didn’t do, the disservice he did for the quarterback I drafted,” Shapiro said. “This is a complete rip on Gary Kubiak.”
From that point a very good debate ensues between Goodman and Shapiro. What’s clear is Elway took a veiled shot at Kubiak, whether intentional or not.
