According to the Denver Posts Nicki Jhabvala, the Denver Broncos placed outside linebacker Shaq Barrett, rookie quarterback Chad Kelly, and rookie tight end Jake Butt on the non-football injury list. They also announced that nose tackle Kyle Peko would be placed on the PUP as they head into the start of Training Camp.

The non-football injury list is basically the PUP but it is designated for players who injured themselves doing non-football activities. Barrett was placed on this list because he injured himself while working out this offseason. Now while both Kelly and Butt injured themselves doing football activities, they happened in college and also fall under these guidelines as well.
All three players will have to gain medical clearance before returning to the field this summer.
The prognosis for all three players vary. Barrett was originally slated to return for Training Camp, but obviously, that is not the case. Jake Butt is currently rehabbing an ACL injury that he suffered in Michigan’s Bowl Game this past winter, and he’s likely entering the season on the PUP. Chad Kelly’s timeline remains unknown, but likely also facing a lengthy PUP stint. The rookie quarterback has been sidelined for most of the offseason and has just started to throw for the first time since his surgery a few weeks ago.
As for second-year nose tackle Kyle Peko, he suffered an injury during the Broncos minicamp practices, so that’s why he was placed on the PUP. 9NEWs Denver’s Mike Klis stated at the time of injury that the Broncos expect him back the first week of Training Camp. So like Barrett, this shouldn’t be a lengthy stay on the PUP.
Broncos also waived/NFI linebacker Josh Banderas. An undrafted free agent out of Nebraska.
