The Denver Broncos quarterback competition is finally, mercilessly over as head coach Vance Joseph named Trevor Siemian the starter for 2017, ending a battle that lasted all through the offseason and into two preseason games. Though it was a close battle, Siemian built upon his consistency with some big plays against the San Francisco 49ers that sealed the deal. Paxton Lynch was never able to pair his ‘wow’ throws with the consistency needed to win this competition.

As fans, there has been so much debate, disagreement, and, frankly, vitriol. The decision is done, so if you found yourself on the Team Paxton side of things then it is time to rally around the Broncos and join Team Trevor.
The Broncos have an elite defense and top tier talent at skill positions, so they could be quite the dangerous team this season. All Siemian has to do is play to his strengths; protect the football, convert manageable third downs, and stretch the defense now and then to keep them from creeping up to cover the short passes.
I am joining Team Trevor for the duration of the season. You will not hear me once call for Paxton Lynch’s number. My eye test tells me his mechanics are seriously flawed and cannot be trusted to run an NFL offense this season - or maybe ever. However, I will not gloss things over for Siemian either. If he struggles, we should discuss why and how he can correct that. If he has a good game, we should celebrate it rather than downplay it.
There is a reason why analysts anywhere outside of Denver do not see Siemian as a long-term answer and it comes down to his own flaws with the eye test. He will need to progress to the point where those outside of Denver start to see something that makes their eyes turn. Frankly, I didn’t think he would be in the position again starting another season for the Broncos, so he has already proven so many of us wrong. I’m excited to see what the future holds for him and the team.
To Team Paxton - will you join me?
