There’s been speculation on what the future holds for T.J. Ward.

Would John Elway and the Denver Broncos re-sign the safety or is his time in the Mile High City coming to a close? Ian Rapoport with NFL Network dropped a bomb on Twitter. He said the Broncos have received calls and had trade conversations about him.

The NFL is set to have a monster roster cutdown come Saturday and this seems to be tied to that and the future Ward has with the organization. This is only a report, but we’ll see how this unfolds.

It’s been clear the Broncos think highly of Justin Simmons, and the pairing with him and Darian Stewart has been killing it this preseason. It could also highlight Denver’s desire to get Jamal Carter on the roster and field.

What’s interesting to think about is what Elway and the Broncos get in return for Ward. Let the speculation begin.

UPDATE 11:23 A.M. MT: Despite the report being confirmed by Nicki Jhabvala, others have reported that there is no immediate interest from the Broncos to trade Ward.

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. MT: Pro Football Talk added an interesting anecdote to the reports and speculation by tweeting the Broncos are actually making the calls, not receiving them, about a trade involving Ward.

Then longtime NFL scout Greg Gabriel went even further by saying Elway and the Broncos hope to get calls and trade him, or Ward will be cut.
