The Dallas Cowboys won the opening toss and decided to take the ball first. They clearly hoped to get their run game going early and often against the Denver Broncos defense.
Instead, the Broncos defense forced the Cowboys into a quick three and out to force the punt.
Trevor Siemian and the Broncos offense came out and converted their first third down on a big catch and run from Demaryius Thomas to get the Broncos into Cowboys territory.
Another quick throw to Emmanuel Sanders led to a big gain after Sanders made an incredible stiff arm to break him free just inside the red zone. C.J. Anderson took it from there on a swing pass for eight as the Broncos had the Cowboys on their heels in this drive.
Two plays later, Siemian connects with Sanders for an opening drive touchdown reception.

Broncos 7, Cowboys 0.
The Cowboys got a few first downs on their next drive, but on a third down and six both Shaquil Barrett and Derek Wolfe were all over Dak Prescott to force another punt.
After an excellent punt, the Broncos started their second drive of the game at their own six-yard line.
After a good gain from Anderson on first down, Siemain found Thomas open for the first down to get the Broncos out past their own 20-yard line. Another first down came via a catch from Cody Latimer and short run from Anderson.
C.J. Anderson turns into beast mode on the next run, bulling over three Cowboy defenders for a 28-yard gain.
Two plays later, Siemian missed a wide open Thomas in the corner of the end zone that should have been an easy touchdown. The Broncos had to settle for a field goal attempt. Brandon McManus missed his second field goal of the season.
The game was delayed with 30 seconds left in the first quarter due to lightning. The Cowboys were driving into the Broncos territory when the game was delayed.
