The Broncos will be without defensive end Jared Crick and nose tackle Zach Kerr for Monday Night’s game versus the division rival Los Angeles Chargers.
“Injury update: [DE] Zach Kerr is going to be out. [RB Devontae] Booker is out and [QB] Paxton [Lynch] is out. [DE] Jared Crick is going to be out and [NT] Kyle Peko is going to be questionable.”
That means the defensive line will be a bit thin as they prepare to take on Melvin Gordon and the Chargers offensive attack. This led to reporters to ask Head Coach Vance Joseph if they would make a move to bring up someone from the Practice Squad(Tyrique Jarrett?) to provide depth this weekend. Joseph didn’t rule it out but seemed wary of releasing someone with the potential risk of losing them to another team.
“That’s always an issue when you bring someone up, you have to expose someone else to the outside teams in the league. That’s always a possibility.”
Well, a few hours later, it was announced that the Broncos waived nose tackle Kyle Peko to make room on the roster for someone. No corresponding roster move has been announced as of yet, but Tyrique Jarrett seems like the most likely addition.
Now it did seem like veteran Jared Crick would be available for this game earlier in the week, but seemed to suffer a setback after Wednesday’s practice session. Joseph indicated that they decided to give him another week of rest and hope that helps him moving forward.
“I think Jared is getting better, but he’s not well enough to play a football game right now. In our opinion, if we put him out there this week, which we could probably, it would hurt us moving down the road. As a group discussion we thought resting him this week would help us down the road with Jared Crick.”
Meanwhile, veteran defensive end Derek Wolfe and former second-round pick Adam Gotsis look to be all set for Monday’s night game. Look for both to get significant playing time as well.
As for the Chargers, they will be without their 2017 first-round pick, wide receiver Mike Williams for Monday Night’s game.
