Report: Significant changes coming to the coaching staff and roster are coming

A disappointing season means some significant changes to the team are coming.

NFL: DEC 24 Broncos at Redskins

After the Broncos announced that they would be retaining Head Coach Vance Joseph for the 2018 season, we all knew big changes around him would be coming. Well, according to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, look for changes to their coaching staff to begin as early as today.

So what coaches are on the chopping block? Well, the obvious one is Special Teams coach Brock Olivo. I am not going to waste the time on why because we all know why, but he’s gone.

So who else?

I would be shocked if much if any changes would be had to the defensive side of the ball unless something is happening behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

The story is much, much different on the offensive side of the ball. A lot of this staff is leftovers of fired Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy. With a new offensive coach likely coming, I’d expect some of McCoy’s guys to go.

Some of the guys I think we will see go include Offensive Line Coach Jeff Davidson, Tight End’s coach Geep Chryst, and Assistant Offensive Line coach Chris Strausser are likely on the shortlist of coaches to be let go in the coming days. I’d say everyone but Running Back’s coach Eric Studesville, Wide Receiver’s coach Tyke Tolbert, and Quarterback’s coach Klint Kubiak is probably in trouble of the offensive coaching staff.

The big key here will be with Bill Musgrave. Klis reported last night that the Broncos will get rid of the “intern” label on Musgrave and make him the full-time Offensive Coordinator in 2018. Nothing is official as of yet, but that might be the first domino to fall in the coordinator puzzle.

Another interesting nugget to come out this morning came from Altitude TV’s Vic Lombardi. He tweeted out that a few “strong personalities” will be removed from the Broncos roster this offseason.

Well, the obvious one here is cornerback Aqib Talib. He will turn 32 years old this winter and is now entering the final years of his contract. His personality is as strong as they come, and he can free up $11 million dollars in cap room as well. So it’s safe to say he will likely be cut or traded this offseason

Another “strong personality” who could go is the wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders. This is pure speculation on my part and not something I am pushing, but he fits the strong personality part.

His contract is not nearly as easy to part with as Talib’s but it’s something to keep an eye on if Lombardi’s tweet is accurate.
