Report: Broncos requested to have Baker Mayfield on their Senior Bowl team

The Broncos wanted to coach Mayfield.

According to SI’s Andy Staples, Phil Savage who runs the Senior told him that the Broncos requested that former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield placed on their team.

This is noteworthy and confirms that the Broncos are indeed interested in the Heisman winning quarterback.

Earlier this month, Sporting News’s Eric Galko reported that the Broncos are among the teams highly interested in Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield will dominate the 2018 NFL Draft process just like Deshaun Watsondid a season ago. But how high can the Heisman Trophy winner go? It’s possible (but not likely) that the Browns will want to draft him in the top five. But Mayfield has plenty of fans around the NFL. He’s a lot more like Russell Wilson and Drew Brees than Johnny Manziel, and NFL teams firmly believe that. Nearly every team in the top 14 will be interested, led by the Broncos or Redskins (whichever doesn’t sign Kirk Cousins), Bills(in a trade-up), Jets and Browns. It’d be a surprise if he drops below the top 14 picks.

As we know, the Broncos are in need of a starting quarterback and Mayfield figures to be near the top of their wish list this offseason. They will get a chance to coach him up in a few weeks at the Reese’s Senior Bowl which figures to help sway their opinion one way or another.

Like Cousins, we now have multiple reports connecting the Broncos to Baker Mayfield. So once again, as the old adage goes, where there is smoke, there is most certainly a fire.

I am sure will find out more about the Broncos intentions with Baker Mayfield and the quarterback position in the week during the Reese’s 2018 Senior Bowl.
