Rumor: Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is “good as gone” this offseason

Could the Broncos lose one of their star receivers?

According to Roster Watch, they have been hearing that Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is “good as gone” this offseason.

This is the first real report/rumor out there stating that Sanders could be gone. We knew that Thomas has an option that could be declined which would make him a free agent, but many expect he restructures with the team. However, this is the first time that Sanders being gone has been reported/rumored.

It’s not a huge surprise that he might be on the outs. There was plenty of talks that Sanders was a bit outspoken and was a “locker room cancer”, mostly made 104.3’s Darren McKee. There was also a tweet by Altitude TV’s Vic Lombardi that a couple “strong personalities” in that locker room would be leaving this offseason. That strongly hinted to Emmanuel Sanders and Aqib Talib to me, but we shall see.

Sanders is coming off a disappointing 2017 season where he totaled just 47 receptions for 555 yards and 2 touchdowns. Poor quarterback play is mostly to blame for this, but he also missed four games due to injury.

Per Over The Cap, Sanders would cost the Broncos $5,375,000 in dead money while freeing up $5,562,500 in cap space if released. I’d expect the Broncos to look to deal Sanders before cutting him for nothing.

It will be interesting to watch how this unfolds going forward, but it appears that a major shakeup is coming to the Broncos offense.
