Report: Baker Mayfield will be on Broncos coached North Team at the Senior Bowl

It was announced earlier today that the Denver Broncos would be coaching the North Team at the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl. With Heisman winning quarterback Baker Mayfield already slated to be there, many fans began wondering if the Broncos will get the chance to coach Mayfield that week.

Well, according to the man who runs everything, Mayfield will be on the Broncos team.

Phil Savage who runs the Senior Bowl told Brandon Krisztal that Baker Mayfield will indeed be on the North Team coached by the Broncos.

This is exciting news because as we all know, the Broncos are in search of a starting quarterback and hold the 5th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. So its quite possible that they would consider Mayfield with that 5th overall pick.

Also, I shared yesterday reports/rumors that the Broncos are among the teams interested in drafting Baker Mayfield in April’s NFL Draft. The report by Eric Galko stated that if the Broncos miss out on signing Kirk Cousins in free agency that they would target the Heisman winner with their 5th overall pick.

This is an excellent opportunity for Vance Joseph and Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave to get an up close and personal look at what will be the most talked about prospect in this year’s draft. If they come away impressed, it could make them think twice about offering Kirk Cousins that big contract they’re rumored to give him this offseason. Or it could do the opposite and make them realize he isn’t worth that 5th overall pick and allow them to go all in on Kirk Cousins or whoever else they decide to target.

Might be why the Broncos decided to cancel their trip to the Rose Bowl on Monday to watch Mayfield.

The entire North roster will be announced on Wednesday, January 17th so stay tuned for that, but we already know it will be featuring Baker Mayfield.
