Chad Kelly arrested and charged with first-degree criminal trespassing

On Monday night, Chad Kelly was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal trespassing.

Update: It appears Kelly got drunk and walked into a home and sat down. The homeowner then chased him out. However, it is still considered a Class 5 felony in the State of Colorado. His bond this morning was $2500.

Original Story: Denver Broncos backup quarterback Chad Kelly has gotten himself into some serious trouble after being arrested and charged by the Englewood Police Department with first-degree criminal trespassing early Tuesday morning.

Colorado Misdemeanor & Felony Criminal Trespass – First Degree Criminal Trespass (18-4-502)

1. A person commits the crime of first degree criminal trespass if such person knowingly and unlawfully enters or remains in a dwelling of another or if such person enters any motor vehicle with intent to commit a crime therein. First degree criminal trespass is a class 5 felony.

According to the press release, a call was made at 1:17 a.m. reporting a man standing outside of a residence. When police arrived, that man was inside the residence and fled on foot. That man, Kelly, was later found and arrested for criminal trespassing and transported to the Arapahoe County Jail.

Criminal trespassing is a serious charge and one that will likely put Kelly’s future with the Broncos in jeopardy. Nick Jhabvala of The Athletic reported that Kelly appeared in court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, which may lead to additional information on this charge.

Not long after, the Broncos issued a statement saying, “We are disappointed that Chad Kelly was arrested early this morning. Our organization has been in contact with Chad, and we are in the process of gathering more information.”

Orlando Franklin on 104.3 The Fan noted that the Broncos players hosted their annual Halloween party at Gothic Theatre where Kelly was arrested and that he was with his girlfriend. Kelly ended up drunk and went off the rails, which could explain the insanity of forcing ones way into a strangers home. This could end badly for Kelly if charges move forward.
