Chubb and Miller chase records headed into final game of the season

New, comments

The game doesn’t mean squat, and most of the excitement may come after it ends, but there is some good history to be made.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Regardless of the outcome, there is some history on the line.

For a change, this isn’t the putrid kind of history we’ve had to stomach the last two seasons thanks to Vance Joseph. This is actually the kind fans of the Denver Broncos are more accustomed to.

As Adam Malnati and I talked about on the MHR Radio Podcast, Bradley Chubb still has a puncher’s chance at the NFL rookie sack record held by Jevon Kearse (14.5). Chubb enters today’s game with 12, so he would need to get three sacks of Philip Rivers. Not to be outdone, Von Miller can add some history to his resume. Miller needs two sacks to become the fourth-fastest player to 100 sacks.

Needless to say, the Orange Rush will have to go off to the tune of five sacks to give life to those possibilities. The good news, as Andrew Mason pointed out on my segment on Friday’s 1st & 10 @ 10, the Broncos have recorded five sacks on Rivers three times. The bad news is Denver hasn’t done that since 2011.

Hopefully today is added to the list and Chubb and Miller make their history. That’s a great way to end a tough season and ring in the new year.
