All of Broncos Country has caught the Phillip Lindsay fever, and John Elway is no different. He joined Orange and Blue 760 today to talk about the team’s three-game winning streak, and shared his thoughts on Lindsay’s special season so far.

You can check out the full interview from Elway above, but here’s some highlights:

  • Elway said Lindsay was someone they had their eye on during the draft and were fortunate to get him as a CFA. “You know he’s a guy that we were looking at him in the 6th and 7th round, he was in our backyard and we were recruiting him and hoping to get him as a CFA and were fortunate to do that.” After the season Lindsay has had, I would say ‘fortunate’ is an understatement.
  • Lindsay plays with a chip on his shoulder and Elway loves it. “He’s a guy who is an underdog and plays with a chip on his shoulder, and that’s what I like about him. I think that his size was the one thing that was his drawback, but you look at his heart and you look at his ability and the speed.”
  • The rookie is still getting better as the season goes. “The really good thing is the fact that he has gotten so much better this year,” Elway said. “he’s continued to get better and better.

“I’ll tell you what, he has become more and more patient, and does such a great job and such a great knack for finding the seam and letting things happen and when they do happen, he hits it and he’s got that speed and quickness to be able to hit it.”

You watch him and you very rarely see him run up the back of a blocker, and that’s a great sign of a great back and when you’ve got that feel like he’s continued to develop, he’s only gonna keep getting better and better.
