John Elway would like to have a formal interview with quarterback Josh Rosen

Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway spoke during the Coach/GM Combine press conferences today and told reporters that he would like to have a formal interview with UCLA quarterback, Josh Rosen.

During the same press conference, Elway also said that they plan on having former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield in for a pre-draft visit as well. So we can assume if they do not address their starting quarterback position through free agency(Kirk Cousins) then we will likely see all the top quarterback prospects visit the Broncos facility.

Rosen’s interviews will be key for him prior to the draft. He has some character concerns(overblown in my opinion) and a personality that may turn some people off of him. So how a team feels about him after these meetings will likely decide if they will draft him or not.

Personally, I feel like someone like Elway would connect and understand someone like Rosen. I see the Jay Cutler comparison thrown around, but I don’t think that’s accurate. Cutler was aloof and simply didn’t seem like he cared. Rosen, on the other hand, is an ultra-competitive egomaniac who is a tad outspoken. This might not sit well with all 32 teams, but keep in mind Elway is ultra-competitive, had quite the ego, and declined to play for the team he was drafted by. So I don’t see Elway being completely turned off from Rosen because of these issues.

One of the big reasons why Elway and multiple other NFL teams will likely overlook these character concerns is his talent. He’s my top quarterback in this draft(If you care what I think) and thinks he’s by far the most pro-ready quarterback of all of the top prospects.

Rosen does have some injury concerns mostly because he played behind a piss poor offensive line while at UCLA, but other than that, he’s legit. There are multiple reports out there that the Broncos like Rosen too, so we will see what happens.

If the Broncos miss out on Kirk Cousins I firmly believe that Josh Rosen jumps atop of Elway’s list at quarterback. They likely pair him with a veteran, but he will be their top priority in my opinion. Would likely have to trade up as well.

Like Mayfield, if the Broncos sign Kirk Cousins, this is all for not. If they miss out on him, Mayfield, Rosen, Darnold, Allen and probably even Jackson will make a trip the Denver prior to the 2018 NFL Draft.
