Elway: Broncos may be open for business with fifth pick

Depending on “where things fall”, the Denver Broncos will be open for business for the fifth pick.

In what is the clearest indication yet that the Denver Broncos are all in on the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes, John Elway confirmed that they would be open for business at number five depending on how things fall.

“We’re open,” Elway said on Wednesday when asked if he would trade out of the fifth pick. “Like you said, everything is going to come in order, and obviously like you said free agency is first. We’ll be open for business on the fifth pick depending on how things fall.”

The only way they trade out of that pick is if they have their franchise quarterback heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. The only true franchise quarterback in free agency is Cousins, so this is an easy dot to connect.

If Cousins goes elsewhere, there likelihood of the Broncos trading out of the fifth pick is infinitely smaller. A trade up would be more likely in that situation.
