Adam Gotsis, the Aussie-born defensive tackle, has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in 2013 while a student at Georgia Tech, the Denver Post is reporting.
The woman first reported the incident Feb. 1. After review, the Atlanta Police Department issued the arrest warrant for Gotsis, who surrendered to authorities March 7. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
The Broncos quickly issued a statement in response to the incident:
“We were recently informed of an investigation into an alleged incident involving Adam Gotsis that occurred in 2013 when he was in college. Our organization was aware of his arrest on March 7, and it is our understanding that no determination has been made at this time as to whether any charges will be filed.
“The Broncos take an accusation of this nature very seriously and will continue to closely monitor the legal proceedings. This issue was promptly reported to the NFL as soon as we learned of it, and we will remain in communication with the league office regarding this matter.”
As a second-round pick for the Broncos in 2016, Gotsis was a key part of their stout run defense last season.
In his two years with the team, Gotsis has two sacks, two fumble recoveries, five batted-down passes and 41 tackles.
UPDATE: A statement has been released by Adam Gotsis’ attorney regarding the allegation.
