Broncos pick up wide receiver Demaryius Thomas option

This was expected.

Despite some nonsensical opinions out there saying this wouldn’t happen, the Broncos have indeed picked up Demaryius Thomas’s $4 million dollar option which triggers the final two-years of his deal.

This was expected for weeks but now official from the Broncos. It ensures that DT will be a member of the Denver Broncos through at least the 2018 season and potentially into the 2019 season.

Thomas had a down year by his standards in 2017, but quarterback play obviously was a contributing factor to this. He totaled 83 receptions for 949 yards and 5 touchdowns. Throughout his career with the Broncos, he has totaled 629 receptions for 8,653 yards and 57 touchdowns. He will go down as one of, if not the best Broncos wide receivers of all-time.

He and the rest of the Broncos wide receivers will look to have a bounce-back season in 2018 with veteran Case Keenum now under center for the Broncos. They have had it rough with Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, and Brock Osweiler all being under for the Broncos the past two years, but a veteran should help them out a bunch.

Thomas has two-years remaining on his contract and I wouldn’t be surprised if he played out that contract for the Broncos. I’m glad DT is back with the Broncos and hope to see him return to form in 2018.
