Broncos college scouting director Brian Stark will also be attending Allen’s Pro Day with Kubiak.
Allen is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft and should draw quite the crowd from all 32 NFL teams, including the Broncos. Allen figures to be gone by the time the Broncos pick at 5th overall, but if they do explore a trade up, Allen figures to be one of their targets.
One of Allen’s biggest traits is his arm strength. He possesses one of the strongest arms we have ever seen and that draws “ooh's and ahhhh” from the crowd. He’s also 6’5” and athletic for a man of his size, so all the physical traits you look for are there.
What Allen needs to show is better mechanics and better accuracy. His footwork and such aren’t great, but he has been working on them. He only had a career completion percentage of 56% in college, so showing improved accuracy here will only help his cause.
However, this is just a throwing session in shorts, with no pressure from a defense, and to open receivers. So it is hard to take too much from this session.
The Broncos sent General Manager John Elway and his entire coaching staff to watch Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield and UCLA’s Josh Rosen take part in their Pro Days. They sent a scout to watch USC’s Sam Darnold throw earlier in the week, and now they’re sending Kubiak and their scouting director to watch Allen throw.
Broncos are definitely doing their homework on this upcoming quarterback class.
