With the goal of simplifying the rule, the NFL Owners took action with this vote today. A catch is now a three-step process. First, control of the football, second establish himself in bounds, and third making a football move. The third item is ambiguous, but they noted that it could be a third step or a lung with the ball in hand.
This is excellent news.
The NFL Owners also approved a host over other changes, including a rule proposed by the Denver Broncos involving the ability to trade players on injured reserve.
