Marquette King brings Mile High swag to the Broncos

King is also a capable and reliable punter, which only adds to the reasons to get excited about this addition.

We all know the Oakland Raiders are salty as hell. That’s always been true, but an extra dose of salt was added over the last week.

Denver Broncos fans knew there would be foul moods over punter Marquette King signing with a division rival, but guys like Bruce Irvin are taking it to absurd levels. The Raiders outside linebacker went on a Twitter rant Tuesday. He must have eaten sour, err, salty, grapes for breakfast. It was glorious. Among the highlights was Irvin saying he signed up for return duties, apparently, against the Broncos only. The rest of his rant is above that linked tweet.

As Adam Malnati and I said on the latest MHR Radio Podcast, King brings a swag attitude to Denver. Yes, I know he’s a punter. But he has a mindset that is needed in the NFL and one that Vance Joseph said he wanted for the Broncos when he was hired last year. You can bring and celebrate that swag too with the awesome new shirt from MHR.

What’s also exciting about the King addition is the fact he’s one of the best in the league, and the Broncos were terrible a season ago on all aspects of punting. Andrew Mason with Denver’s website had a great Twitter thread on what King’s addition could mean for the team. As Mason said, “In five career games in Denver, King has a gross average of 50.0 yards and a net average of 44.0 yards. So if he maintains his career averages in Denver compared with away from Denver — with an equal # of punts home and away — he would post a gross average of 48.3 yards and a net of 42.4 yards. And remember, his net last year — with just 1 Denver game — was a career-high 42.7.”

There are plenty of reasons to feel excited about the addition of King, and the swag is certainly one of them. The saltiness from the Raiders is another. But it’s also what he brings on the field, and that’s a drastic improvement.
