Pat Bowlen is reportedly in failing health

The toll of battling Alzheimer’s disease is finally getting to Pat Bowlen. Sadly, the greatest owner in Denver Broncos history has losing that battle.

According to Woody Paige of the Colorado Spring Gazette, three separate sources with close associations to the Bowlen family have said that Pat Bowlen’s physical health is declining dramatically. He has been battling Alzheimer’s disease for possibly a decade or more.

Three sources with close associations to the Bowlen family have told me that Pat’s physical health is declining dramatically. He has been suffering with Alzheimer’s disease for many years.

According to the sources, although Bowlen receives constant medical attention at his home in Cherry Hills, he has been hospitalized several times.

The head of Broncos PR was quick to dispute these claims to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk who offered a different point of view on Bowlen’s health saying, “Mr. Bowlen is resting very comfortably at home as he receives care for Alzheimer’s disease. Joe Ellis visited with him just this past week. He’s doing fine.”

However Bowlen is doing right now, we all know how unforgiving Alzheimer’s disease is. Which is why Paige’s overall point centered around something that may not make a difference in his battle with the disease, but could honor him while he is still with us.

In short, the time to get Bowlen into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a contributor is now. Not later.
