Should the Broncos trade up for quarterback Sam Darnold?

Rumors be swirling.

NCAA Football: Arizona at Southern California Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

We are just hours away from the first-round of the 2018 NFL Draft kicking off and the rumors are swirling. Right now, it appears that Baker Mayfield may go first-overall allowing USC’s Sam Darnold to drop.

Darnold is one of the Broncos top targets, could they trade up for him?

It has been widely reported that the Broncos top three targets in the first-round are quarterbacks Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and Bradley Chubb. Now with Darnold who is likely their top quarterback on their board likely slipping, should they trade up for him before the New York Jets can get him?

It would be a costly move up for the Broncos that would likely cost them multiple day two pick and potentially some 2019 picks. However, if it gets you your quarterback of the future, it is a deal that has to be made.

Personally, I do not see it happening. There was nothing out there about Denver moving up for Baker Mayfield who is reportedly one of the players they coveted, so why would they do it for Darnold? It is possible Darnold is so far ahead of everyone else that this changes everything but I am skeptical. I would say trading back is more likely than trading up but with the way this draft is going, who the hell knows.

Buckle up Broncos Country, this is going to be one wild ride.
