Welp, no one saw that coming. No one.
But what a huge pick for John Elway and the Denver Broncos. When people went through all of the possibilities in the NFL Draft, Bradley Chubb was never mentioned. He wasn’t even an option. In fact, he never even visited the Broncos’ facility and only met the team once, which happened at the NFL Combine. To have him fall to No. 5 is huge.
Some had Chubb as the No. 1 player in the overall draft. At the very least, he is the consensus No. 1 defensive player in the draft. If the thought of him paired him with Von Miller already gives you goosebumps, you’re not alone. Denver is now on par with the Los Angeles Chargers in pass-rushing duos. We got an idea of how much Miller likes Chubb at the start of the offseason workouts last week.
“He’s Khalil Mack and Von Miller put together,” Miller told the media, laughing. “He is a great player. I would love to have him on my team. You don’t come across guys like that often. Having the No. 5 pick in the draft, I hope we don’t have a high pick like that for a while. If we could steal a player like that, I’m all for it.”

Again, the fact Elway and the Broncos were able to grab Chubb with their pick is a huge steal. Yes, I just said, “grab Chubb.” No, it doesn’t solve the problem on offense, but when none of the top quarterbacks are there, and the New York Giants didn’t accept the rumored offers from Denver to get to No. 2, when your consolation prize is Chubb you take that, run and don’t look back.
Chubb isn’t just a great pass rusher, he brings personality. As this story from SB Nation highlights, he’s a goofball. Who does that sound like? He gets the chance to not only learn from Miller but also let his personality shine alongside the biggest goofball in the NFL.
Chubb likes to play head games with opposing players. Several times during his college career at NC State, that meant going up to guys on the other team — usually quarterbacks — and stealing the hand towels that were tucked into their pants.
Most felt Elway needed to nail this draft, and that it could be the most important one of his career. The last two years, the Broncos tried to ignite a fire with wet newspaper. By grabbing Chubb, Elway just took a flamethrower and lit Denver back to life. It didn’t happen the way most, if anyone, thought it would. But when you get the chance to grab Chubb, you never pass it up.
Elway asked if surprised Bradley Chubb was there: “We were. We thought he would go a little bit earlier. We didn't think he would get by Cleveland so we were thrilled he was there. He will add a lot to the defense. His style of play, he plays 120 percent all the time.'' #9sports

Now the fanbase gets the spark it desperately needed.
No one saw the selection of Chubb in their draft crystal balls, but what a great pick. The last time the Broncos got the best defensive player in the draft, he turned into the Super Bowl MVP.
