Sutton is a 6’3”, 218lb receiver who will step in and contribute right away for quarterback Case Keenum and the Broncos offense. Sutton ran 4.54 40-time, jumped 35.5 inches, and is just another big target in the Broncos offense.
He played four seasons at SMU and put up some impressive numbers during that time. During that four-year span, he totaled 195 receptions for 3,220 yards, 31 touchdowns.
The Broncos needed wide receiver depth and get that with Sutton. Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are not getting any younger and 2017 third-round pick Carlos Henderson is coming off a terrible rookie year. So this pick helps now and into the future.
If all goes as planned, Sutton replaces DT down the road and Henderson replaces Sanders down the road. Will that happen? Time will tell.
In the end, I love this pick. Keenum threw a bunch of 50/50 balls last season with the Vikings and adding another big playmaker to go up and get those balls is a good move.
Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway tweeted out that the Broncos had a first-round grade on new Broncos wide receiver, Courtland Sutton.
We had a 1st-round grade on SMU WR Courtland Sutton and we're excited to select him at No. 40.— John Elway (@johnelway) April 27, 2018
He has tremendous upside as a player and on top of that is a great person. pic.twitter.com/qXiRMGg82A
How would you grade the Broncos selection of Courtland Sutton?
