It was reported yesterday by 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis that the Broncos and the agent for recently released punter Marquette King have had conversations about potentially joining the Broncos. King’s agent said that “Marquette would love an opportunity to come visit there. Obviously, Denver is a punter’s dream. They’re high on his list.’
Well, things have moved quickly and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, former Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King is visiting with the Broncos today. Rapoport indicates that there is interest on both sides about getting this deal done.
Minutes after Rapoport tweeted out that report, 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis tweeted out that the Broncos are expected to sign punter Marquette King to a three-year deal. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted out that it’s a three-year deal worth up to $7 million dollars.

King was released by the Raiders because Head Coach Jon Gruden didn’t really get along well with him very well. King apparently “rubbed him the wrong way” so they decided to move on from arguably the leagues best punter. This will end up being a big gain for the Broncos and give King two chances a year to continue to run Jon Gruden the wrong way.
King is entering his 7th season in the NFL and has turned into one of the better punters in the league during that span. During his six seasons in the NFL, King has totaled 426 punts, 19,941 yards with a career-long punt of 72 yards. He averages 46.8 yards per punt and has landed 156 of those 426 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line. That’s pretty damn good.
With this potential signing happening, the Broncos will likely move on from former seventh-round punter Riley Dixon.
