Last weekend, to the dismay of my wife, I was watching the English Premier League. As I was watching, a thought detonated in my mind: Would relegation work in the NFL and what would it look like?
What would relegation look like in the #NFL? It will never happen, but it was a fun discussion between @AdamMalnati16 & me. Also on the latest @MileHighReport Radio Podcast, the most crucial aspect of #Broncos rookie minicamp is staying healthy. https://t.co/ij2FsAvQ4E

I asked those two questions to Adam Malnati, which sparked a mini debate between us. We knew we had to make it the topic for our next podcast. Thus, here it is.
On the latest MHR Radio Podcast, Adam and I explore what relegation would look like in the NFL. This is based on the premise it will never happen, but it was a fun discussion to at least contemplate and hypothesize.
We also touch on the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp, and how avoiding injuries is the most crucial aspect of the practices. It’s also our first chance to see Bradley Chubb take the field. Continue to celebrate the Broncos grabbing Chubb with this awesome, vintage shirt.

What is relegation?
Before we go any further, and it was mentioned in the comments, a brief descriptor of what relegation is. For the example of this story and podcast it is based on the Premier and Championship Leagues in England. At the end of the Premier League season the three bottom teams get relegated or dropped to the Championship League. Subsequently, the top three teams from the Championship League move up to the Premier League.
If relegation were to become a tool, it would definitely test the loyalty of fanbases around the NFL. It would take the emphasis off the league and put it on the individual teams. It would make the conclusion of the regular season even more dramatic and hectic. Imagine if the Broncos were to play a divisional opponent where the loser gets relegated. Holy shit, just thinking about that makes the stress build.
Among the several reasons it will never happen is the damage it would cause to the players’ individual brands. If relegation were in place, consider how much Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning would lose, since the New York Giants would have been relegated. Same goes for Andrew Luck with the Indianapolis Colts. The other big factor is the money the owners could lose if their team had to drop out of the NFL.
Adam and I had a lot of fun pondering the possibilities. What do you think, Broncos fans?
