HT: Broncos undrafted rookie defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei has decided to retire

New, comments

Good Morning Broncos Country!

NCAA Football: Utah at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

According to NFL Draft analyst Tony Pauline, Denver Broncos undrafted rookie defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei has decided to retire from football and focus on coaching.

Lotulelei was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent after the 2018 NFL Draft concluded. He was given a $15,000 dollar signing bonus which was tied for the most the Broncos gave to any of their UDFA’s. He took part in the Broncos rookie minicamp this past week but apparently decided to hang up his cleats for one final time.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, Lotuelei paid back his hefty signing bonus to the Broncos already.

As Klis notes, this loss doesn’t leave the Broncos with much depth at the defensive tackle position behind veteran Domata Peko and reserve Kyle Peko. Lotuelei was considered a good bet to crack the 53-man roster but now the Broncos are once again searching for nose tackle depth.
