The Denver Broncos 90-man roster breakdown continues with Tramaine Brock. When the Denver Broncos traded Aqib Talib to the Los Angeles Rams, changes were coming for the secondary. In March John Elway made the move to acquire Brock in an effort to gain depth at cornerback.
Name: Tramaine Brock
Position: DB
Height: 5-10
Weight: 188
Age: 29
Experience: 9
College: Belhaven College
Brock joins a talented group that has been dominant over the last 4 seasons, but will struggle to avoid a drop off with the loss of Talib. Bradley Roby will be given a chance to prove he is a legitimate starter, and Brock will be filling the role of nickle corner.
The Good
Brock has been an impact player in the past. He had 5 interceptions and 15 passes defended in 2013 with the San Francisco 49ers. He has the ability to make an have an affect on a game, and as a veteran, he will be looked to as a leader in the secondary. However, he won’t be called on to be the best player on the field.
Broncos deal with CB Tramaine Brock: 1-year, $3 million fully guaranteed ($1 million signing bonus, $2 million salary), plus another $1 million in play-time incentives. Good deal for No. 3 corner who turns 30 in August. #9sports

Heading into his 9th season, Brock will provide a veteran presence. Joining the Denver Broncos secondary comes with its own pressure. There are big expectations, but Brock won’t likely be swallowed up by the stress of filling Talib’s shoes. With the Broncos revamping the defense Brock will be part of shoring up the secondary, but won’t be a focal point.
The Bad
There isn’t much more to write in “The Good.” As Brock heads into his 9th season, it seems like he is on the backside of his career. Brock played in 11 of Minnesota’s games in 2017, but had very little impact. The Broncos probably have some idea of what they want out of Brock, but it is hard to know what to expect.
While he has shown the ability to be a solid defender in the past, no one really knows what to expect. Will Brock be the guy who pulled in five picks for San Francisco while starting only 7 games, or will he be the guy with a bunch of zeros in his stat line like he was in Minnesota.
Quotable
“Tramaine Brock, he’s walking into a huge role,” Joseph said of the veteran corner the team signed at the start of free agency. “In Denver, the third corner has been a starter, so we’re hoping that him and Roby battle it out and the best guy wins the job as the No. 2, and whoever doesn’t win the job as the 2 is the 3. But they’re all starters.”
Status
It looks like Brock will be the biggest competition for Bradley Roby for that number two CB role. He is going to compete, and he will be a big part of the defense. What type of impact he will have remains to be seen, but he will be a big part of helping continue the run of the No Fly Zone in Denver. The secondary is a huge question mark for the Broncos and Brock will be integral to answering those questions.
