Von Miller’s offseason goal? To make life even harder for the NFL’s quarterbacks.

The Broncos’ Twitter account probably said it best. “How does Von Miller get better? By learning from the all time sacks leader.”

Yesterday, Miller convened his 2nd annual Pass Rush Summit at Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, Missouri. And he brought in some seriously talented instructors: NFL Hall of Fame pass rushers Bruce Smith and Warren Sapp. Smith, if you didn’t know, holds the all-time record for career sacks with a beautifully even 200.0.

In addition to learning from the pair of greats himself, Miller joined them in passing along pass rush knowledge and techniques to the various active players who attended. The guest list extended from established sack artists like Khalil Mack and Vic Beasley to some of the NFL’s newest pass rushers, including Broncos rookie Bradley Chubb and Saints rookie Marcus Davenport.

Here’s the full list of players in attendance:

There are probably more than a few quarterbacks who wish this event wasn’t a thing, because the knowledge shared by players of Smith, Sapp, and Miller’s caliber is going to contribute to many a quarterback’s bruise count for years to come.

There was quite a bit more on the schedule than just business, though. It’s the NFL offseason, so fun was a big component of the day. Miller and company enjoyed bowling, go karts, an arcade, and more. And no stay in the beautiful ozark hills would be complete without a fishing trip- at least not if Von Miller is the guy making the trip.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Miller made sure to include said fishing trip and raved about local conservation efforts, including USA Today’s America’s Best Aquarium winner, Wonders of Wildlife. And the event went so well, he’s already announced that they’ll be returning to the same location for his 3rd annual pass rush summit in 2019.

On a side note, I have to wonder if any rookie pass rusher has ever had a more incredible first offseason than the one Bradley Chubb has enjoyed this year. He gets to play alongside and learn from a future Hall of Famer in Von Miller, got coached by another future Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, and then got to benefit from the wisdom of two current Hall of Famers. And all this has happened before Chubb has even taken his first real NFL snap. If the rookie has taken advantage of the rather amazing pile of opportunities handed to him this offseason, he should make an instant impact on the field this fall.
