Denver Broncos wide receiver Carlos Henderson remained away from the team on Friday and we received a little bit more information on his status from Head Coach Vance Joseph. He once again reiterated that its up Henderson when he wants to turn but the Broncos are moving on with or without him.
Joseph: WR Carlos Henderson “is having some family problems right now … it’s on Carlos” as to when and whether he wants to return.

Henderson is dealing with a “family matter” but it doesn’t sound like the team is expecting him back anytime soon.
“With Carlos, he’s having some family problems right now. It’s strictly on Carlos if he wants to continue to play football, if he wants to come back to camp and compete. That’s strictly personal with Carlos. We lost two guys and we added two guys at receiver, so we’re at ninety and we’re moving on and we’re focused.”
I obviously do not know what family issues Henderson is going through but you often do not see a coach say “It’s strictly on Carlos if he wants to continue to play football, if he wants to come back to camp and compete.”. Add in them essentially replacing his roster spot with rookie Mark Chapman and veteran Corey “Philly” Brown and it doesn’t really sound like they’re expecting him back anytime soon or at all. Joseph’s comment at the end saying they’re “at 90 and moving forward” also seems like they’re ready to move forward without him on the team.
Again, we have no clue what issues Henderson is dealing with, but the team’s actions and words do make it seem like it is more than a “family matter”, at least in my opinion.

As we know, Henderson dealt with conditioning issues last season as well as poor play when healthy, a finger injury that ended his rookie season, an offseason arrest, another nagging injury that sidelined during OTA’s and minicamp, and now this did not report/family issues sidelining him. So it obviously has not been a smooth ride for Henderson, but the talent and explosive play he showed on tape makes you want to hope this works out.
Henderson’s big play ability was evident on tape and a big reason why the Broncos selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, we have yet to see that play in the NFL, but hopefully, it all works out in the end for Henderson and the Broncos.
