Name: Justin Simmons
Position: Safety
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 202
Age: 24
Experience: 3rd Season
College: Boston College
The Good
Justin Simmons is the total package for the modern NFL safety. He’s got great range, superb read / react ability, and is a sure tackler.
What has impressed me the most in his short career thus far is how versatile he is in the Broncos Defense. He’s played all over at FS, SS, and general DB you can plug in anywhere in sub packages.
The Bad
The biggest downside to Simmons is that there isn’t two of him on the team.
Seriously though, it is hard to say what weakness he has. He’s made mistakes, but definitely no more than you’d expect for any good player in the secondary.
Quotable
On his comfort level compared to last season:
...I would say I feel a lot more confident just being out there and knowing my play book and being out there with the starters. There’s that confidence level in, ‘I should be out here, I deserve to be out here, I’ve worked hard.’ But never comfortable...
2018 Status
The Broncos have one of the most talent rich safety corps I’ve seen on a NFL roster. Simmons is a very big part of that in his own right. While I think he’s the best fit as a free safety, the team will likely keep using him as a SS / sub package defensive back since Darian Stewart plays much better at FS than SS.
