Chad Kelly to start for the Broncos in preseason finale against Cardinals

The Denver Broncos will start Chad Kelly in the final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. Paxton Lynch to get the second half.

As the Denver Broncos head into their fourth and final preseason game, the only for sure positions locked up on the final 53-man roster are the 22 guys not suited up to play in this game. Chad Kelly and Paxton Lynch are not one of those guys, so it will be important for both of them to come out and play well.

Kelly will get the start against the Arizona Cardinals according to Head Coach Vance Joseph, while Lynch will get the second half.

“Chad will start the game on Thursday, and hopefully they can play half and half,” Joseph said on Monday. “That’s the game plan going into the game.”

For Mr. Irrelevant, nothing was certain for his future in Denver when training camp began, but by the time this fourth and final preseason game rolled around he has all but locked u the backup quarterback position and even has people wondering about the future.

Through three games, he has completed 28/41 of his passes for a 68.3% completion rate. He has thrown for 340 yards, 3 touchdowns to just one interception. On the flip side, Lynch has completed 14/29 of his passes for a 48.3% completion rate. He has just 102 yards passing with 0 touchdowns and one interception.

It’s pretty clear who is rising and who is falling here. Both still need a big game though. Kelly to keep his hype train rolling and Lynch to give evaluators around the NFL hope he might still have a future in this league.
