Disappointing but likely the right move for the Broncos.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos will end up cutting 2017 third round pick, wide receiver, Carlos Henderson before the 2 p.m. MT cut deadline today.

Henderson came to the Broncos in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The explosive receiver was expected to contribute right away as the Broncos number three wide receiver but that never happened.

He struggled throughout the OTA’s, minicamp’s and into Training Camp for the Broncos last season. His season ultimately ended after the first preseason game where he injured his finger and was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list. Henderson would not take the field as a member of the Denver Broncos again.

Henderson’s struggles on and off the field continued after the season when he was arrested for a marijuana charge. He vowed to get into better shape and was posting videos on social media of him working out, but the injury bug struck again. A hamstring injury sidelined him for most of the offseason program which set him behind. To make matters worse, the Broncos selected Courtland Sutton in the second round and DaeSean Hamilton in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Both rookie receivers quickly moved Henderson on the depth chart putting his spot on the team in danger.

Many were anxious to see how Henderson would respond during Training Camp but they never got that opportunity. He never showed up the Camp and only did return to speak to General Manager John Elway once camp was over. It is unclear what was said in this meeting, but clearly, it didn’t involve Henderson getting a roster spot.

Now the Broncos move on from Henderson who does have Practice Squad eligibility. However, with everything that happened, I am not sure they add him to that 10-man team.

In the end, it was a very disappointing tenure with the Broncos for Carlos Henderson. He appeared to have a bright future here but that, unfortunately, never happened.

Update - 9/2/18

According to Carlos Henderson on Instagram and confirmed by Ryan Koenigsberg, the Broncos have brought the embattled second-year wide receiver back on their 10-man practice squad,
