The Orange-Ade Review: Week 3

Here is my week 3 review with the Orange-Ade in the blender and Orange blinders firmly in place. This is the 19-0 18-1 until we ain't report. This is the place to sit back and bask in the Orange glow. This is where our future is so bright, we have to wear Orange Shades.

Connie Mack first said you can't win 'em all. Dude was spot on. Since this review only uses the optimistic font, I saw a lot I liked from some of our rookies this week. Let's call this the "future of our future is so bright we have to wear Orange Shades" edition.

Royce Freeman ran fast, ran hard, and ran free. He showed the vision and footwork on his five yard touchdown run Bronco faithful drooled over in the preseason. On 13 carriers, Rolls Royce averaged a respectable 4.1 ypc plus the TD. His best games are still to come.

Josey Jewell played his first significant # of snaps on defense and was very active. Credited with 8 tackles, a pass defended, and 1 TFL, 'The Outlaw" flashed the future-starter play Bronco Nation dreamed of when first drafted.

Bradley Chubb registered his first full sack. The rest of his numbers are modest, but he seemed to record a few pressures and, let's just assume, he was probably held on a couple non-flagged pass rushes. He was a key part of the Denver D that limited the Raven's run game to 2.8 ypc.

DaeSean Hamilton was a late punt returner replacement and held his own. On three punts, he looked calm and confident and averaged a decent 10.3 yards per return. I look forward to seeing Hamilton with more opportunities in the offense.

Phillip Lindsay made a mistake, a big mistake, a monumental take-the-team-out-of-field-goal-range AND remove-one-of-your-best-options mistake. I bet he does not make the same mistake again. After the game he owned up like a Pro. Let's call this his rookie mistake, a learning moment, a growing moment, and a let's move forward moment.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Joe Jones. Can we see more of Punt-Blocking Joe on D, please?
  • Isaac Yiadom. Pressed into duty and getting valuable reps and experience.
  • Courtland Sutton. Caught 2 of 3 targets, only needing to look 100% of the passes into his hands and break out for a big game.

Go Broncos! Let's bake the Chefs next week.
